Dear family,
You are all very present in my heart at this sad time. I will light a candle on July 27 in memory of Jim. As a very young Auntie, 11 years old when he was born, I have so many fond memories of his childhood. When Doug was just learning to talk, he called me “Amp”…it stuck. My sister’s family became my first babysitting experience. I thank them for setting me up with some basic life-learning. It has served me well, not having had a family of my own.
In my teens, I stayed at my sister’s for a time, riding the school bus with her kids and sharing their early lives. I remember Jim coming home with fascinating stories about school. One day he came home singing, over and over and over, a song he’d learned that day. It was a catchy tune that said a lot about who this kid was. He always had a positive outlook on things…practical and fun at the same time.
My last conversation with Jim was in March 2023. He was facing some serious health issues and said to me, “I thought I was going to have a few more years”. He had a sense of what lay ahead.
You will miss Jim through all the landmark events in your own lives in the years to come. Know that you are held with compassion by friends and family.
I’m wrapping you all in a cocoon of love.
Marie
